MPU and the DG Interpretation of EC Co-organise the 10th China-Portuguese Conference Interpretation Training Course
To enhance Macao’s role as a platform between China and Portuguese-speaking countries, the Faculty of Languages and Translation (FLT) of Macao Polytechnic University (MPU) and the Directorate General for Interpretation of the European Commission (DGI-SCIC) jointly organised the 10th edition of the Chinese-Portuguese Conference Interpretation Training Course. Experts from the DGI-SCIC and MPU provided training to interpreters and translators from various departments of the Macao SAR Government, including the Public Administration and Civil Service Bureau, Health Bureau, Cultural Affairs Bureau, Land and Urban Construction Bureau, Identification Services Bureau, Pension Fund, and the Forum for Economic and Trade Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (Macao). The training content included principles of conference interpretation, consecutive interpretation, and simultaneous interpretation, and very positive responses were received.
At the opening ceremony, Vivian Lei, the Vice-Rector of MPU, expressed gratitude for the DGI-SCIC’s support. Over more than a decade, the two parties have collaborated to train high-level Chinese-Portuguese interpreters in Macao. At the same time, the DGI-SCIC’s project coordinator for Macao, Anabela Frade, said that the DGI-SCIC will continue working with MPU to promote linguistic and cultural diversity and cultivate more excellent Chinese-Portuguese bilingual translation talents.
Since 2010, the Chinese-Portuguese Conference Interpretation Training Course has been held for ten sessions, yielding fruitful results. Through this program, over a hundred trainees have mastered advanced interpretation techniques, demonstrating remarkable performance in international conferences and diverse cultural exchanges. Looking ahead, FLT of MPU is committed to strengthening its collaboration with the DGI-SCIC to enhance the calibre and standards of Chinese and Portuguese interpreter and translator training in Macao. By nurturing professionals with a global perspective and specialised skills, this initiative will further enrich Macao's multicultural landscape.
