Macao--A delegation led by Xing Yutang, Deputy Director of the Academy of Translation and Interpretation of the China Foreign Languages Publishing Administration (China International Communications Group, CICG) and Executive Deputy Secretary-General of the Translators Association of China, recently visited Macao Polytechnic University (MPU).

The delegation was warmly received by MPU Vice Rector Lei Ngan Lin, Vivian. The visit focused on strengthening collaboration within the translation industry, advancing the development of high-end translation talent in the digital and AI era, and bolstering the language service sector across the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

During the meeting, Vice Rector Lei expressed her gratitude to the China Foreign Languages Publishing Administration (China International Communications Group, CICG) for its enduring support. She outlined MPU’s achievements in language and translation curriculum development, highlighting the university's role in nurturing high-quality professionals for both Macao and the nation.

Vice Rector Lei noted that with the support of the Macao SAR Government, the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao SAR, and the CICG, MPU established the region's first China Accreditation Test for Translators and Interpreters (CATTI) test location. This initiative has made significant contributions to the professionalization of the translation sector. She affirmed MPU’s commitment to advancing Chinese-Portuguese and Chinese-English translation education and continuing its pragmatic cooperation with the CICG and the Translators Association of China.

In response, Deputy Director Xing stated that the Translators Association of China is eager to pursue in-depth discussions with MPU regarding faculty development, the planning of academic exchange activities, and the administration of CATTI exams.

Following the meeting, the delegation toured MPU’s teaching and research facilities, including the China Accreditation Test for Translators and Interpreters (CATTI) test location.

The China Accreditation Test for Translators and Interpreters (CATTI) is a unified national professional qualification certification in China, open to the general public. Since its launch at the MPU center in 2021, the examination has been widely welcomed by the local community.

The meeting was also attended by: Du Nan, Deputy Director of the Secretariat of the Translators Association of China; Liu Junhuan, Deputy Director of the Secretariat of the Translators Association of China; Zhang Yunfeng, Dean of the Faculty of Languages and Translation at MPU; and Sio Ka Lam, Ella, Acting Head of the Public Relations Office at MPU.
