To support Macao's development as "a platform between China and Portuguese-speaking countries" and "a base for training Chinese and Portuguese bilingual talents" as well as to enhance the integration of Chinese and Portuguese culture and education, Faculty of Languages and Translation hosted together with Portuguese Teaching and Research Center, The Fifth "China-Lusophone Distinguished Scholars" Lecture Series at Macao Polytechnic University (MPU), inviting distinguished scholar Carlos Ascenso André, Chairman of the Academia das Ciências de Lisboa (Portugal) and Honorary Professor of Macao Polytechnic University, to give a lecture entitled "University Cultures in a Multicultural World: China and Portugal in a Global Perspective", exploring the interaction and mutual learning between China and Portugal in cultural renewal and innovation of university culture.

From a global perspective, Carlos Ascenso André, shared in his lecture through rich examples the importance of exchange and integration of diverse civilizations in the development of higher education, and illustrated the unique value and practical method of mutual learning between China and Portuguese-speaking countries. He also provided an in-depth analysis of the commonalities and similarities between Chinese and Lusophone cultures, as well as Macao's great potential as a platform for multicultural exchanges. The Fifth "Chin-Lusophone Distinguished Scholars" Lecture Series attracted teachers and students to engage in heated discussions with the scholar on topics such as cultural exchange and language teaching. The lively academic discussions helped broaden the international horizon of MPU teachers and students, deepening their understanding and reflections on multiculturalism, Chinese and Portuguese cultures, and nurturing new ideas for academic cooperation between China and Portugal.

"China-Lusophone Distinguished Scholars" Lecture Series has welcomed to MPU renowned scholars in various fields from China and Portuguese-speaking countries, sharing with our teachers and students their academic experiences and the most updated knowledge in their respective field in their efforts to further China-Lusophone exchange and cooperation, and to elevate the academic level of Portuguese language teachers.
