MPU Signs Agreements to Further International Cooperation with Higher Education Institutions in Brazil

Aiming to strengthen the international ties of Macao's higher education institutions, representatives from Macao Polytechnic University were invited by DSEDJ to join the Macao higher education delegation in a trip to Brazil, visiting Brazil's top universities: Universidade de São Paulo (USP), Universidade Estadual de Campinas(UNICAMP), Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro(UFRJ). During the trip, Macao Polytechnic University (MPU) signed cooperation agreements with the renowned Universidade Estadual Paulista (UNESP) and Universidade de Brasília (UnB). Macao Polytechnic University (MPU) has made remarkable achievements in deepening academic collaborations with Brazilian universities, contributing rich experience to promote exchanges in various fields between China and Brazil, as well as consolidating Macao's role as a platform for exchange and cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking countries.

Mr. Im Sio Kei, Rector of Macao Polytechnic University (MPU), Mr. Cesar Martins, Vice Rector of Universidade Estadual Paulista (UNESP), and Ms. Rozana Reigota Naves, Rector of Universidade de Brasília (UnB) signed the cooperation agreements representing their universities in the ceremony. The signing signifies the formal establishment of strategic partnership between MPU and UNESP, between MPU and UnB, on faculty and student exchange, joint research and curriculum development, turning advantages in fields such as language science and artificial intelligence to drive talent cultivation for China and Brazil in cutting-edge cross-disciplinary fields.

Mr. Im Sio Kei expressed that 2025 is the beginning of "the Golden 50 years" between China and Brazil, the agreement signing is an important step for MPU to actively support the national strategy. To deepen future cooperation with universities in Brazil, three key areas should be stressed. Firstly, the establishment of joint laboratories and research centers by focusing on major issues of common concerns to China and Brazil; secondly, the expansion of student exchange programmes and the establishment of joint training programmes to cultivate talents who are familiar with both Chinese and Brazilian cultures; thirdly, the active transformation and implementation of cooperation achievements in Macao-Hengqin University City by providing support for international science and technology innovation in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Macao Polytechnic University is committed to strengthening cooperation with top universities in Brazil, fully exercising its role as a bridge for higher education exchanges between China and Brazil, thus highlighting Macao's status as a "precise connector" and striving to create a new benchmark for higher education cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking countries. Mr. Joaquim Manuel Costa Ramos de Carvalho, Associate Dean of Faculty of Languages and Translation, Ms. Cheong Weng Lam, Head of Academic Affairs Department of Macao Polytechnic University attended these activities.
