What courses does MPU offer for degree programmes admission?

MPU offers a variety of postgraduate programmes and undergraduate programmes in the areas of Business and Management, Information Technology, Languages and Translation, Arts, Sports, Public Management and Health Sciences.

What is the duration of your degree programmes?

Doctoral degree programmes are three years in duration, Master's degree programmes are two years in duration.

All undergraduate programmes are four years in duration.

What languages are your programmes taught in?

The medium of instruction varies across programmes. Please refer to the postgraduate programmes and undergraduate programmes page for details.

Are any of your programmes open to students from the arts/science stream only?

We welcome students from all streams to apply to our programmes.

Admission requirements
Q1

What are your admission requirements of postgraduate programmes?

Doctoral degree programmes:

  1. Holding a Master’s degree or the equivalent, or currently studying in the final year of a Master’s degree programme;
  2. Satisfy any additional criteria prescribed by the programme of study concerned.

Master’s degree programmes:

  1. Holding a Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent, or currently studying in the final year of a Bachelor’s degree programme;
  2. Satisfy any additional criteria prescribed by the programme of study concerned.

What are your admission requirements of undergraduate programmes?

  1. Having completed six years of secondary education and fulfilled the requirements for graduation; or
  2. Currently attending the third year of senior high school or equivalent.

How do I apply for postgraduate admission?

We welcome applications for admission via principals' recommendation*, admission exams, admission scheme for local talents and professionals* or direct admission.

When can I apply for admission?

Applications for postgraduate are accepted from October every year, and applications for undergraduate are accepted from September every year. Please refer to the application period under each respective admission route.

How do I apply to for admission?

Candidates should apply online and pay their application fees within the application period.

How much is the application fee?

MOP250 (subject to adjustments; please refer to our latest announced rates).

How can I pay my application fees?

Candidates may settle their application fees by:

  1. Credit card online; or
  2. Paying in-person at MPU’s Treasury with cash, cheque, bank draft or credit card (cheque/bank draft should be payable to ‘Macao Polytechnic University’); or
  3. Bank draft payable to Macao Polytechnic University which should be mailed to MPU’s Treasury.

Can I ask for a refund of my application fees?

We are sorry that applications fees are non-refundable.

After I have submitted my online application, can I still make changes to my programme choices or personal information?

Yes. Candidates may login to the online portal anytime during the application period to update their programme choices or personal details.

Am I required to submit additional documents after I’ve submitted my postgraduate application and paid the relevant application fees?

Candidates should upload the documents required via Online Application Portal and submit two recommendation letters to MPU’s Registry. Details of the procedures and documents required are available on the admission routes of postgraduate programmes pages.

Am I required to submit additional documents after I’ve submitted my undergraduate application and paid the relevant application fees?

Candidates applying for entry by admission exams are required to upload the identification document onto the application platform.

Candidates applying through our admission scheme for local talents and professionals should bring the required documents to MPU’s Registry during the application period.

Candidates applying for direct admission submit the required documents onto the application platform or send them to the MPU’s Registry by courier mail.

If I am not admitted to MPU through the Principals’ Recommendation scheme, can I apply for undergraduate admission in the same year by taking your admission exams?

Yes. Unsuccessful candidates of this scheme may still gain admission via admission exams without the need to make a separate application. They are simply required to download the ‘Admission Examination Notice’ and/or ‘JAE Permit’ from the MPU website and attend the examinations as scheduled.

Can I apply for admission to MPU’s programmes if I hold a secondary qualification from a school outside Macao?

We welcome students holding non-local secondary qualifications to apply to our programmes. Once admitted, students are required to submit these documents for the recognition by MPU’s relevant units before they can officially register for classes.

I am staying in Macao under the investment immigration scheme and hold a residency permit issued by IPIM. Can I apply to MPU’s programmes?

Yes. Candidates who are admitted are requested to provide a valid Macao ID card when they officially register at MPU.

Undergraduate admission via Admission exams

I have already submitted my application and paid the relevant application fees. What are the next steps?

Please download the ‘Admission Examination Notice’ and/or ‘JAE Permit’ from the MPU website once they are available and attend the examinations as scheduled.

Which exams do I need to attend?

Admission exams include one or more of the following: written exams (JAE), interviews and specialised exams. For details of exam requirements of each programme, please refer to the undergraduate programmes page.

When are admission exams held?

Admission exams are generally held between March to May every year. The specific schedules can be found on the admission exams page.

Can I apply for exemptions from admission exams?

Candidates who meet certain criteria may apply for exemption from admission exams. They are required to bring the required documents to MPU’s Registry during the application period. Details can be found on the admission exams page.

Do you award bonus points to candidates?

We award bonus points to Macao candidates who are high achievers in various aspects. Bonus points apply to candidates who sit for admission exams and will be awarded upon assessment. Details can be found on the admission exams page.

What language will admission interviews be conducted in?

Interviews are generally conducted in the same language as that of the medium of instruction. However, final decisions will be at the discretion of the respective programme’s assessment panel.

Undergraduate admission via Admission scheme for local talents and professionals
Q1

What is the admission scheme for local talents and professionals?

This scheme is targeted at Macao residents applying to some of our programmes. Candidates applying for admission under this scheme will be exempted from written exams and will stand a chance of gaining early admission after passing an interview. Can I apply for admission through this scheme if I am a non-local candidate?

No. This scheme is exclusively for Macao residents only.

What are the requirements that I have to fulfill in order to be considered for admission under this scheme?

Undergraduate admission via Direct admission
Q1

What is direct admission?

Candidates may apply for direct admission by submitting the results or certificate of the accepted open examinations or diplomas. Please refer to the direct admission page for a list of accepted examinations and diplomas.

I have already submitted my application and paid the relevant application fees. What are the next steps?

Candidates should submit the required documents onto the application platform or send them to the MPU’s Registry by courier mail during the application period after they have submitted their online applications. More information of the required documents can be found on the direct admission  page.

After submitting the required documents, do I still have to take any other assessments?

Candidates may be invited to attend a video interview or other assessments. Any candidate failing to do so will be disqualified from admission.

Offers
Q1

How do you select students for admission?

Offers are made on the basis of merit. We will also take into consideration the admission quota of respective programmes, documents submitted for evaluation as well as performance in assessments.

How do I check my offer results?

Offer results will be made available on the candidate portal. Candidates should check their results online by themselves, as we do not provide or confirm them by email or any other means.

I have been offered a place at MPU. What are the next steps?

Candidates who are offered admission to our programmes should download the offer letter and other related documents (e.g. medical check-up form and tuition fee debit note) from the candidate portal, and pay their tuition fees by the due date stated on the debit note. Otherwise their eligibility shall be forfeited. Candidates should also complete their registration within the stipulated time.

Can I postpone my admission until the next academic year?

No. Postponement is not possible.

How much are the tuition fees?

Please refer to the latest fees under fees and scholarships page.

How often do I pay my tuition fees?

The tuition fees shall be settled in two installments for Master's degree programmes and in three installments for doctoral degree programmes within respective normal periods of study; A student who fails to complete his/her programme within the normal period of study is subject to a continuation fee.

Tuition fees for undergraduate programmes are generally paid every semester.

Can I have my tuition fees refunded?

When do I officially register as a student of MPU?

Admitted candidates should first pay their tuition fees and then complete their registration on the dates mentioned in the new student registration guide.

What happens if I do not register on time?

Admitted candidates must first be registered before they become students of MPU. The Registry reserves the right to suspend or terminate the rights of students to attend classes.

Can I ask someone to register on my behalf?

No. Registrations must be done in person.

Q4

I do not have all necessary documents ready for registration yet. May I register first?

No. Candidates are required to bring all necessary documents with them for registration.

Medical check-up
Q1

Do I need to have a medical check-up before I begin my studies at MPU?

Yes. Admitted candidates are required to have completed a check-up and have their medical reports on hand before they register at MPU.

Will MPU arrange medical check-ups for students?

No. Admitted candidates should make appointments for medical check-ups by themselves.

Where can I go to have a medical check-up?

We accept medical check-ups done at the following institutions:

  1. Health Centre
  2. Kiang Wu Hospital / Macao University of Science and Technology Hospital
  3. Private Clinics recognized by the Health Bureau

What are the steps in doing a medical check-up?

Please follow "the guidelines in the new student registration guide" (Note: Medical check-ups take around 2 to 3 weeks to complete. It is advised to make appointments early).

What scholarships are offered by MPU?

How do I apply for a scholarship?

Postgraduate scholarship application must be submitted together with the admission application; Undergraduate scholarships are awarded automatically and no application is required, please refer to the respective pages on Postgraduate Scholarship and Undergraduate Scholarship for details.

Does MPU offer fellowships to students?

Yes. We provides a local student fellowships scheme to help those experiencing financial difficulties to enroll on our bachelor's degree programmes.
