Summary:
The monograph is a recent study of the “One Country, Two Systems” principle. The report provides a comprehensive evaluation on the constitutional development of the Macau SAR after the restoration to its motherland in 1999, and is an academic monograph of the jurisprudence study. The authors analyze from the perspectives of administrative authorities, legislature, judiciary, fundamental rights and duties of the residents, and the culture and social affairs. Summary:
This monograph is the latest academic production of Prof. Xu Chongde, the famous expert of legal study, in collaboration of his student Associate Prof. Zhu Songling. There are four chapters. Chapter 1 is a historical confirmation, illustrating the fact that Macau and Taiwan have been part of the territory of China, and thus the relationship between Macau and Taiwan is a regional issue with one country. Chapter 2 is a historical review, recounting the changes of the cross-Straits relation and policies after the establishment of the New China and the restoration of Macau, and how the position of Macau has become outstanding in this issue throughout the historical development. Chapter 3 is a detailed analysis on the statistics of Macau-Taiwan exchanges during 1999-2009, an objective evaluation towards the communications in the field of politics, economics and culture between the two places is provided. Chapter 4 is a general conclusion and future suggestions. Six pieces of related historical literatures are attached for the readers’ reference. This book shows some unique suggestions on the Macau-Taiwan relationship, and is considered to be a policy-related academic monograph.

Summary:
On the beginning of the second decade of the Macau SAR, the One Country Two Systems Research Center, MPI hosted an Academic Conference on “‘One Country, Two Systems’ and the Legal System Construction” on 22nd June 2010. The Conference is aimed at fostering the perfection of legal system construction and the establishment of a rule-by-law society. This proceeding contains the 33 papers presented by scholars from Macau, Hong Kong, Taiwan and the Mainland China in the conference, and is divided into four sessions:
- “One Country, Two Systems” and Constitutional Development;
- Administration According to Law and Legal System Construction;
- The Basic Law and New Political Structure;
- Legal Reform: Reflections and Suggestions.
It is believed that this book is beneficial to better understanding of the “One Country, Two Systems” policy. It will also inspire scholars and researchers to further explore the direction and strategies of legal system construction of the SAR in the coming decade.
