Macao Polytechnic University Students Join the Service Learning Scheme to Build a Caring Society
Macao Polytechnic University students and trainees engaged in the Service Learning Scheme experienced the power of care in the community.
In order to encourage university students to participate in community service, strengthen their sense of social responsibility and promote the spirit of love, the Student Affairs Office of Macao Polytechnic University launched the Service Learning Scheme to let students contribute what they have learned to society, serve the underprivileged, inherit the culture of caring and friendship, and become practitioners of building a caring and inclusive society.
The Service Learning Scheme aims to nurture students' social responsibility and accountability through experiential learning and to promote social progress through selfless dedication. The Scheme includes training, theme sharing, visits to the underprivileged and service practice, and it attracts students of different majors and years to actively participate and serve the underprivileged with a caring heart. Members who have participated in the Scheme said that in the process of service they deeply appreciated the determination and kindness of the mentally handicapped who, despite the difficulties and challenges in studying and social adaptation, always face the world with a smile and try their best to do everything. Some members also said that the activity taught them to respect the differences and uniqueness of each individual, learn acceptance and tolerance, and reflect on how to better give back to society and fulfill social responsibilities.
Macau Polytechnic University is committed to intensifying student cultivation and development, and continues to strengthen interaction and cooperation with the community and enterprises. Through the Service Learning Scheme, the Student Affairs Office promotes a spirit of care and dedication. By participating in this activity, students learned, reflected and expanded on different experiences during their growth stages. It strengthened students’ understanding of the underprivileged groups and developed a positive personal concept of society, eventually achieving the goal of helping others and themselves and jointly building a caring and diverse society.
