From CCISP to MPU

 

  1. Eligible Students

    Students from the institutions of higher education in Portugal which are members of the CCISP (hereinafter the “Associated Institutions”) are eligible to apply for this exchange programme, subject to the learning module prerequisites for certain degree programmes offered by the Macao Polytechnic University (hereinafter “MPU”) as detailed in Item 4 below.

  2. MPU’s Degree Programmes

    MPU offers a number of degree programmes including programmes of the Faculty of Applied Sciences, Faculty of Health Sciences and Sports, Faculty of Languages and Translation, Faculty of Arts and Design, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Faculty of Business and  (hereinafter “MPU’s Programmes”) for students from the Associated Institutions.   3. Submission of Applications

    Eligible students who are interested in joining this exchange programme can contact their respective programme coordinators of the Associated Institutions in order to submit their applications. When submitting their applications, the applicants should indicate which learning modules and subjects of MPU’s Programmes they would like to study.

  4. Programme Prerequisites

    An applicant must be able to produce an academic transcript with the previous study plan issued by the Associated Institution for evaluation, and must possess a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or above, and good command of English. 

  5. Pre-Departure Registration

    When a student makes a successful application to this exchange programme (hereinafter “the Exchange Student”), the respective programme coordinator of the Associated Institution will send a copy of the study agreement, which is signed by the programme coordinator and the Exchange Student, to MPU. When the application is accepted, the Exchange Student will need to complete a pre-departure “Overseas students online application” on this link. Upon completion, the Exchange Student will receive a registration number, which he or she should email to MPU at registry@mpu.edu.mo and sao@mpu.edu.mo.

    Exchange Students may also choose to complete the MPU medical check-up form. Upon registration, the Exchange Students have to show to Registry that they have taken the Tetanus Vaccine in Portugal.

    At least 3 months before classes begin, MPU should receive all the information and documents of the Exchange Students' information, such as application form, study agreement, transcript, passport copy, identification copy and one color photo. These documents must include all relevant signatures and chops (official rubber stamps), and may be submitted by email in scanned soft copy such as pdf to to the Student Affairs Office, Ms Isabel Rosa Duque (isabeld@mpu.edu.mo).

    Moreover, they should bring with them to MPU the original hard copies of all the required documents, such as the completed application form and related information, as well as other necessary documents, including the medical check-up form and the original records of vaccinations, which are to be submitted to Registry upon their arrival at MPU.     MPU will inform the Exchange Student if there is a time-clash between the selected learning modules. The Exchange Student will then need to consult with the respective programme’s coordinator and revise his or her learning module selection and resend the study agreement to MPU.

  6. VISA for Entry to Macao

    Exchange Students holding Portuguese passports do not need a visa to enter Macao. For other passport holders, please consult the Corpo de Polícia de Segurança Pública of the Macao Special Administrative Region about their visa requirements, Nationals of a number of countries are exempted from applying for a visa before entering Macao.     After your arrival in Macao, the MPU Student Affairs Office (SAO) will guide you through the application of the “Special Authorization to Stay”, which is a necessary document for your stay in Macao as students. 

    Note: Students are responsible for preparing their own travel documents, identification cards, and other required documents to support their applications for the VISA.

  7. Academic Calendar

    Please refer to MPU’s website for the current academic calendar.

  8. Arrival Date

    Exchange Students should arrive in Macao at least four (4) working days before the first class begins. This is to ensure that they have enough time to complete all the formalities, such as student registration, opening a bank account, and to familiarize themselves with the new environment.

  9. Post-Arrival Registration

    When Exchange Students arrive at MPU, they should submit to MPU’s Registry the originals of their Registration Documents, including the application form, study agreements and transcript endorsed by the respective Associated Institutions’ programme coordinator, MPU medical check-up form, passport and identification card for completing their post-arrival registration.

    Those who are unable to present any of the Registration Documents to MPU’s Registry may be declined to be officially registered. Furthermore, they may not be allowed to attend classes and / or take part in assessments, and will not be provided with any insurance coverage.

    If, during the registration process of change of day/night classes, an Exchange Student would like to amend any of the selected learning modules, the Exchange Student must obtain the respective Associated Institution’s endorsement again and submit the revised learning module selection and resend the study agreement to MPU’s Registry.

  10. Class Attendance

    Exchange Students are required to meet a minimum percentage of class attendance for each learning module they study in MPU. In general, that percentage is 70%, while the Nursing Programme and Biomedical Technology Programme require a higher percentage of 90% for their internship modules.

    Those who fail to meet the class attendance requirement of a particular learning module will not be allowed to take its final assessment and will receive a failing grade thereof. For more information, please visit.

  11. Booklist and Class Timetables

    Exchange Students can find the relevant booklist and class time-table information under the MPU website Booklist and Class-time-tables.

  12. MPU’s E-mail Accounts

    Each Exchange Student will be provided with an e-mail account and is obliged to check his or her e-mail on a daily basis. For the regulations on the use of e-mail accounts, please refer to this link.

  13. Regulations, Guidelines and Legislations

    All Exchange Students must comply with the MPU’s regulations and guidelines, as well as the laws of Macao. For more information, please visit this link.

  14. Phone Numbers

    Exchange Students are required to register with MPU’s registry their local mobile phone numbers in order to receive important information sent via SMS (short messages service) by MPU.

  15. Student Notices

    MPU issues student notices from time to time. Exchange Students are reminded to check the following regularly to receive the latest information.

  16. Online Student Services

    Important information, including final grades, absence rates, enrollment confirmation, class and examination tables, debit notes and receipts, electronic database, etc., will be disseminated via the Internet on the Student Information Web (SIWeb).

  17. Supplementary Examinations

    Exchange Students who have failed the final assessment of any MPU learning module must attend its supplementary assessment as scheduled in MPU’s academic calendar. Please refer to MPU Examination Regulations on taking supplementary examinations in this link.

  18. Handling Examination Violations

    All MPU students must comply with MPU Examination regulations.

    Students' non-compliance with examination regulations, disobeying the arrangements or instructions of invigilators/working staff, will be considered to be violation of examination regulations. For more information, please visit this link.

  19. What are the likely items of expenditure for the Exchange Students in Macao? How much are they approximately?

    Tuition fees: No additional tuition fee payable to MPU.
    (Exchange Students pay only the tuition fees of their Associated Institutions for the semester(s) when they are studying in MPU).
    Accommodation: MPU will provide hostel accommodation for Exchange Students in one of the MPU hostels, when they are in Macao under this exchange programme, provided that a caution fee of MOP1,030.00 is payable upon checking-in. When the Exchange Students check out, the caution fee is refundable on the condition that all accounts have been settled and no damage to the hostel rooms found. 
    Living subsidy: Each Exchange Student will receive from MPU a monthly living subsidy of MOP3,000.00 for any month in which they stay at MPU for 15 days or more. The subsidy can be used for paying meals and other basic expenses.
    Electricity fees: Each Exchange Student will receive from MPU a monthly electricity subsidy of MOP200.00 for any month in which they stay at MPU for 15 days or more. Any outstanding amount will be payable by the Exchange Students themselves.
    Transportation expenses: MPU will provide the Exchange Students with free transportation (a) from the Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal, the Taipa Ferry Terminal or the Macao International Airport to the student hostel when they first arrive in Macao for this exchange programme; and (b) from the hostel to the terminals or the airport at the end of the programme.

    Public bus services are normally available from 6 am till midnight. You may purchase the student version of “Macau Pass”, a rechargeable smartcard for making electronic payments, with which you can enjoy concessionary fares on public buses. For more information, please visit this link.
    Meal expenses: Exchange Students are responsible for their meal expenses. They may choose to dine in one of MPU’s student canteens or any off-campus restaurant. For reference, a set lunch with soup costs at least MOP30.00 at the student canteens, while a restaurant charges around MOP50.00 or above for one dish.
    Health care and insurance: Upon registration with MPU, an Exchange Student should pay around MOP300.00 as his or her insurance premium. For more information, please visit MPU website information on student insurance in this link.

    Only pharmacies sell medicines in Macao. Some medicines can be bought only upon the presentation of a prescription while others can be purchased without one.

    It is recommended that Exchange Students carry with them a sufficient amount of the medications which they take on a regular basis, if any, for the duration of their stay in Macao.
    Note: The above fees are only for reference and subject to change. In the event of discrepancy, the fees published by MPU or the relevant authorities will prevail.
  20. What documents do I need to bring with me?

    • Your passport (with a minimum validity period of one year) together with a VISA, if necessary;
    • Your citizen identification card (with a minimum validity period of one year);
    • Six (6) recently taken passport-type photographs of you (with a white background);
    • Your health insurance card and the corresponding insurance policy;
    • Your personal hospitalization insurance and the corresponding insurance policy;
    • Your updated vaccination record;
    • Your MPU physical examination form, which must have been signed and sealed by the examining doctor;
    • Your fully completed and approved Application form and Learning Agreement form;
    • Your Portuguese bank information, including the name and address of the bank, your account number, the IBAN, SWIFT and NIB codes, together with copies of your passbook or card.
      (For your information, Banco Nacional Ultramarino (BNU) is the only bank in Macao that has connections with banks in Portugal. It accepts requests to transfer money of a sum less than EUR100.00 to Caixa Geral de Depositos, the receiving bank in Portugal. Each Exchange Student is strongly recommended to open an account with Caixa Geral de Depositos before coming to Macao under this exchange programme.)
    Note: Exchange students must bring along the original documents of the above items to Macao, and are also advised to carry with them at least three photocopies each of items 1 and 2, i.e. passport and ID, so as to facilitate fast processing.
