The Bell Teacher Campus Opens at MPI


Over 100 teachers from mainland China and Macao participated in the 4th Bell Teacher Campus 2016.

 

The MPI-Bell Centre of English and Bell Educational Services have jointly organised the 4th Bell Teacher Campus 2016, which is held from July 11th to 22nd, for teachers of English to develop as professionals, to share ideas and meet teachers from other cultures. The series of courses this year has attracted more than 100 teachers from schools and universities in mainland China and Macao, including Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, Shantou University, English School Attached to Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, Sanshui Foreign Languages School, Beijing Foreign Studies University, Guangdong Experimental High School, Guangzhou Yuexiu District Education Development Centre, The Chinese Educators Association of Macau and City University of Macau.

The opening ceremony of Bell Teacher Campus (Macao) was held on July 11th at MPI. Guests attending the ceremony included Ms. Cen Jiayi, representative of the Department of Culture and Education of the Liaison Office of the People's Republic of China; Mr. Chang Kun Hong, Deputy Director of Tertiary Education Services Office; Dr. Kou Kam Fai, Principal of Pui Ching Middle School; Professor Im Sio Kei, Vice President of MPI; Professor Zi-yu Lin, Director of MPI-Bell Centre of English and Mr. David Anthony Quartermain, its Deputy Director.

Bell Teacher Campus (Macao) is organised each July by the MPI-Bell Centre of English, and offers a variety of one and two-week residential teacher development courses covering every aspect of teaching English. Participants are also able to attend specialist workshops and cultural events, as well as optional cultural visits in vibrant Macao.

This year, the MPI-Bell Centre of English continues to offer the very popular courses which include: Trainer Training for Experienced Teachers; Learning Teaching: Become the Best Teacher You Can Be; Methodology for Secondary & Tertiary English Teachers; Teaching Knowledge Test (TKT) Module 1-3 Preparation; IELTS for Teachers; Teaching Phonics; and Using Games and Activities in the Primary Classroom. Speakers and trainers of the Bell Teacher Campus (Macao) this year include twelve ESP trainers from MPI-Bell Centre of English, as well as three special guest speakers: Mr. Nicholas Peachey, winner of the 2012 British Council's Innovation Award for Excellence in Course Design; Ms. Katy Kelly, an expert on primary school methodology from Bell Educational Services' Bell St. Albans School; and David Gatrell, an expert on digital teaching resources from the British Council. Participating teachers are actively involved in classes which are full of joy and interaction, and they are delighted to learn the latest approaches in the methodology of English Language Teaching. They have expressed that the instructors’ patience, professional instructions, and rigorous scholarship impressed them greatly and that they gained a lot in the programme and they are learning from each other. The experience is very rare and memorable.
