MPU Student Attends International Music Education Conference in Finland and Gains Fruitful InsightsA student from the Macao Polytechnic University (MPU) Bachelor of Music Programme travelled to Helsinki, Finland to participate in the International Society for Music Education (ISME) Conference for learning and exchange. With the theme “Advocating for the Sustainability of Music Education,” this conference attracted over 1,500 educators and students in the field of music education from 63 countries and regions worldwide. The student from MPU joined peers from around the globe to explore the sustainable development of music education and delve into new perspectives in music research. |
MPU Teachers and Students Participate in the “Art Village Construction: Beyond Concepts - Yaoli Village Non-Fiction Creative Workshop”, Reaping Fruitful OutcomesThe Ministry of Education’s 2024 “Hong Kong, Macao, and Mainland China School Exchange Program - University Student Project” - “Art Village Construction: Beyond Concepts - Yaoli Village Non-Fiction Creative Workshop” was held in Yaoli Village, Nanxun District, Huzhou City, Zhejiang Province. 30 students from Macao Polytechnic University (MPU), Peking University, and the Chinese University of Hong Kong ventured into rural areas to explore practical creative project planning and operations, using creative management, artistic empowerment, and lifestyle aesthetics to support local rural revitalisation efforts. |
MPU Teachers and Students' Works Excel at National Art ExhibitionThe “14th National Art Exhibition for Works from Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, and Overseas Chinese Artists,” organised by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People’s Republic of China, the Chinese Federation of Literary and Art Circles, and the Chinese Artists Association, has opened. After multiple rounds of evaluation, a total of 293 selected works were chosen, including 14 works from the Faculty of Arts and Design (FAD) at the Macao Polytechnic University (MPU), a result that is truly inspiring. |

MPU Students Visited Climate Change Photography Exhibition to Learn about Sustainable Social DevelopmentIn order to promote the students’ understanding of sustainable social development, the Faculty of Arts and Design of Macao Polytechnic University organized students to visit the "Know Heaven, Know Earth: Oxfam in Macau Climate Change Photography Exhibition" organized by Oxfam. MPU holds “2024 Music Spring Gala Concert” to Showcase Teaching AchievementsThe Faculty of Arts and Design of Macao Polytechnic University recently held the "2024 Music Spring Gala Concert" in the university auditorium. 13 outstanding students from the first to fourth years of the Bachelor of Arts in Music performed the performance. They showed their youthful style through a number of Chinese and Western music and demonstrated their teaching to the society. The result is a music feast full of youthful atmosphere. MPU's 2024 Open Day showcased outstanding teaching and research achievements with enthusiastic responseThe “Macao Polytechnic University Open Day 2024” was held on 6 January and has showcased the characteristics of the University’s educational approach, information on degree programmes, achievements in teaching and research, social services, and achievements as a result of international cooperation. This was done through a series of activities such as degree programme seminars, guidance sessions for further studies, thematic exhibitions, campus tours, workshops, experiential sessions as well as exchange sessions with graduates. The Open Day has attracted nearly 3000 participants, including recent high school graduates, elites, students and parents, making a very lively event. |

MPU Students Won Gold Medal in Greater Bay Area Brand Design CompetitionThe "2023 Greater Bay Area Brand Design Competition" hosted by the Macao International Brand Enterprises Commercial Association and co-organized by the Economic and Technological Development Bureau recently held an award ceremony. The competition attracted the participation of many tertiary institutions. After experts’ review, three teams of students from the Master programme of Interdisciplinary Arts of the Faculty of Arts and Design of Macao Polytechnic University won the gold medal, the Intangible Cultural Heritage Award and the Intangible Cultural Heritage Copywriting Award respectively. It demonstrated the teaching and research achievements of Macao Polytechnic University in arts and design, cultural creativity and business planning. |
MPU Student Kwan Hoi Io won the Open Group Grand Champion of Guangdong-Hong Kong-MacaoTo encourage students, youngsters and members of the public to express their impressions of marine life through art, and with a view to promoting public awareness on conservation of marine resources, The Municipal Affairs Bureau of Macao SAR, the Marine and Water Bureau, the Department of Natural Resources of Guangdong Province, the Hong Kong Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department, and the Ocean Park Conservation Foundation Hong Kong jointly organised the "Painting the Colorful Ocean, Protecting Our Home – Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Marine Life Drawing Competition 2022”. The competition attracted participation from young students and people from the three regions, with over 6,000 pieces of work submitted. MPU Holds 2023 Graduation Ceremony with Over 800 Graduates Embark on a New JourneyThe Macao Polytechnic University Graduation Ceremony for Academic Year 2022/2023 was held at 4:00 pm on May 31st at the university's multi-sport pavilion. The national flag was raised and the national anthem was sung at the graduation ceremony. More than 800 students from doctoral, master's and bachelor's degree programs graduated. At the ceremony, honorary doctoral degrees were awarded to individuals who have made outstanding academic achievements and significant contributions to social and educational development. Ms. Ao Ieong U, representative of the Chief Executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region and chancellor of University Council, the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture, expressed that the SAR government will continue to support the university's commitment to the education policy of "dual emphasis on teaching and research", cultivate more outstanding talents for Macao and the country, and create better scientific research results. |

MPI held Exam Gas Station to Give Encouragement and Warmth to StudentsOrganised by the Student Affairs Office and Student Union of the Macao Polytechnic Institute, the "Exam Gas Station" was recently held before the final exams of the first semester. The event created a harmonious, mutually supportive and encouraging campus atmosphere which assisted in helping students to release some of their stress and transmit positivity among students. Students took photos in front of the blessings wall backdrop, while the Student Union distributed refreshing beverages and heart-warming gifts to participants through mini games. But the sincerest blessings were given to students through musical performances. In addition, the Lunch Music Salon, performed by students from the Music Programme, was held to relax students’ bodies and minds with beautiful vocal solos and various musical instrument solos including the flute, Zhongruan, trombone and marimba. |
MPI and Sands China Launch Talent Development ProgrammeIn order to enhance the competitiveness of higher education students and young people, as well as develop their career planning, the Macao Polytechnic Institute, Sands China and the Macao Polytechnic Institute Alumni Association jointly launched the “Art Talent Development Showcase Programme”, whose objectives are to stimulate higher education students’ creative thinking, enhance their practical skills, promote talent development and lay a solid foundation for their future career planning. The opening ceremony took place on 12 November at the Adelson Advanced Education Centre, Venetian Macao. Macao Orchestra Holds Its First University Concert “Rhythm of Tango” at MPIThe Macao Orchestra recently held its first university concert of the season "Rhythm of Tango" at Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI), bringing a wonderful musical feast to teachers and students alike this autumn. Under the leadership of the orchestra conductor, Jian Baijian, the Macao Orchestra vividly presented world classics such as “Quatro, para Tango”, “Por uma Cabeça”, “Adiós Nonino”, “Underground Tango”, “Danzas Latinoamericanas”, etc. In addition, the conductor also guided the audience into the world of classical music to gain artistic nourishment by giving an appreciation of the beautiful pieces. The concert attracted more than 150 teachers and students to attend with enthusiastic responses. |
Bringing the New: Joint Modern and Contemporary Art Exhibition of Year 3, Visual Programme, MPIThe opening ceremony of the "Joint Modern and Contemporary Art Exhibition of Visual Arts Programme, Macao Polytechnic Institute", themed "GYBE", was held by the Visual Arts Programme of the Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI). The exhibition comprises 20 pieces of modern and contemporary art works with various art forms, created by junior (year 3) students of Macao Polytechnic Institute, including installations, immersive art, conceptual art as well as graphic works. This is a new milestone for our institute. |

Macao Orchestra Held its First University Concert at MPI, Commemorating the 250th Anniversary of Beethoven’s BirthdayTo celebrate the 250th anniversary of Beethoven’s birth, the Macao Orchestra held its first university concert of this season at the Macao Polytechnic Institute. The Macao Orchestra played the masterpieces of Beethoven and attracted over a hundred teachers and students to attend the concert. Mr. Kan Pak Kin conducted the concert and guided teachers and students to appreciate the music. Students were benefited a lot by deepening their understanding of classical music and learning about Beethoven’s legendary life. |

MPI Student Film BLACKBEARS Wins Awards in Italy and USWith the “Daring, Innovative, Persistent” spirit in perusing dreams, the MPI student documentary BLACKBEARS receives the Best Student Film of New York Movie Awards in the U.S. and the Grand Jury Award of Best Sport Film of Oniros Film Awards in Italy. Initiated as a class project, MPI students HO Ka Wai, LONG Weng Si, SIO Seng Tak and LI Wei have gone the distance and brought this Macao local story to the world stage, conglomerating theory and practice, learning and experience, and academia and techniques fostered by MPI’s distinctive programme of Bachelor of Arts in Design. |

The combination of culture, creativity and communities, MPI Mid-Summer Arts Camp Opens“The MPI Mid-Summer Arts Camp Activities 2018” hosted by the Cultural and Creative Industries Teaching and Research Centre, Macao Polytechnic Institute opened at MPI at 9:30 am on 9th July (Monday). The activity aims to enable secondary school students to utilize their creative talents and hopes to enhance their appreciation of Macao's cultural and creative industry and their artistic abilities. The summer camp activities are popular among the high school students of Macao. Participants said that they have benefited a lot from the activities and they hope to contribute to the Macao cultural and creative industry in the future. |

MPI’s Bachelor of Arts in Visual Art Programme Successfully Accredited by HEEACTThe Bachelor of Arts in Visual Art programme of the Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI) has successfully passed a programme validation exercise by the Higher Education Evaluation and Accreditation Council of Taiwan (HEEACT), the second bachelor’s degree programme of arts in Macao to be academically accredited after the Institute’s Music programme in 2015. HEEACT, a renowned academic accreditation institution in Asia, announced the review report of this exercise on its website, providing very positive comments on the programme and acknowledging its contribution to the Macao SAR Government’s strategy of developing the city’s cultural and creative industries. HEEACT’s report also commended the programme for its excellent contents, educational resources, support for teaching and learning, as well as quality assurance and enhancement. |

MPI Student’s Artworks have been Selected by the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours Exhibition for Three Consecutive YearsAfter receiving “The John Purcell Paper Prize” (Awarded artwork “Mario Night”) in 2015 and “The Leathersellers’ Award” (Awarded artwork “Working Alone”) in 2016, MPI student Filipe Miguel das Dores (Bachelor of Arts in Visual Art, Year 4) has two artworks “Which Payphone is Ringing?” and “Which Mirror Reflects the Ringing Payphone?” selected by the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours 205th Exhibition. Standing out from nearly 2000 artworks, this is the third consecutive year for Filipe to have artworks selected by the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours Exhibition. Filipe has shown the high learning standard of Macao Polytechnic Institute, and does credit to Macao. |

MPI Launches Cultural and Creative Industries Teaching and Research CentreThe Macao Polytechnic Institute held the Opening Ceremony of the Cultural and Creative Industries Teaching and Research Centre on the Gomes campus on the morning of 1 April. Lawerence Cheng Encourages Young People to Observe More and have a Bold AttemptInvited by Macao Polytechnic Institute's School of Arts, Lawrence Cheng, one of Hong Kong's major media personalities, chaired a cross-media seminar entitled “Inventor, Creative” on November 4th. “A Little While” ExhibitionOrganised by the School of Arts, 23 Year 4 students of the digital media design programme are hosting a student exhibition with the theme “A Little While”, which features more than 20 pieces of original works in 3D animation, motion graphics and interactive design. The exhibition is an opportunity for students to showcase the fruits of their 4 years of learning before graduation, allowing them to interact with each other and to improve their aesthetic sense and creativity, thus preparing them for professional contributions in the arts and cultural arena. |

Joint Solo Exhibition in New York by MPI Professors: Hsu Hsiu Chu & Chen Chiu JhinRooted in Macao and facing the world Dr. Hsu Hsiu Chu and Professor Chen Chiu Jhin, Director and Professor of the School of Arts, Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI) respectively, held a joint solo exhibition in the Gallery of Amerasia Bank, New York from June 19th to 30th.. The exhibition was officially opened after a press conference at 2pm on June 19th, New York time, followed by an opening ceremony at 5pm. Many art lovers and artists attended the exhibition, and apart from rating the exhibits highly they also strongly supported the MPI professors being invited to exhibit in New York. |

Cheong Wai Hang of School of Arts Won 2014 ACA World ChampionshipCheong Wai Hang, a student from the Bachelor of Arts in Design Programme, School of Arts, won the championship of the 2014 Adobe Certified Associate (ACA) World Championship in California, U.S.A. Cheong stood out in the competition with 32 others representing 16 countries and brought home the top prize and became the world champion of the competition. His honour did credit to Macao, as well as to MPI. Cheong mentioned in the interview that, he had acquired good knowledge in Adobe since he enrolled in the Design Programme in the institute, which was the key to his success. In the coming year, he will try his best to learn more and participate in different international competitions related to his discipline. |
