Peking University Health Science Center - Macao Polytechnic University Nursing Academy Laboratories

Nursing Laboratories are simulated as real hospital wards in which besides, teachers can demonstrate nursing skills to students, nursing students can practice their nursing skills and technique. The laboratories are composed of fundamental and specialty nursing, opened to all our nursing students as to strengthen their nursing knowledge and skills.

The nursing laboratories include:

Demonstration Room

The demonstration room is equipped with high-fidelity simulators with which teachers can teach and demonstrate different nursing skills to students.

Paediatric Laboratory

The Lab has baby models for students to practice baby bathing, a digital pediatric scale for measuring a baby’s height, weight, and length, a non-invasive bilirubin measuring device, etc.

Obstetrician-gynecology Laboratory

There are obstetric examination simulators and obstetrics models showing the different stages of development of the fetus inside the uterus.

Simulation Laboratory

SimMan 3G, a scenario-based simulation can display a wide range of physiological and neurological symptoms as well as pharmacological responses for over 145 drugs. It can be set in different kinds of scenarios with the simulator.

Observation Room

The observation room consists of one-way mirrors, through which teachers can observe students’ responses and reactions while they are practicing the simulator training. The computer system of the simulator is equipped to control the simulators in SimMan Room.

Intensive Care Unit (ICU)

This simulated unit is equipped with patient monitors, portable ventilators, chest compression system, an emergency cart, and SimMan ALS models with critical cases for teaching and student practice.

Community & Rehabilitation Laboratory

The Community and Rehabilitation Laboratory simulates the home environment of rehabilitation persons, allowing nursing students to practice how to take care of rehabilitation clients at home through simulation. On the other side, there are walking stairs, climbing frames, walking training frames, electronic bicycles, etc., so that students can master the basic knowledge and skills of physical therapy and traditional rehabilitation.

Virtual Dissection Table

In order to stimulate students’ interest in learning anatomy, and improve their learning outcomes, the Nursing Academy equips a "3D Virtual Anatomy System". The main features of the system are a high-precision virtual human body, a real structure with real human body proportions, and with a Chinese-English bilingual option. In addition, the touch-screen interactive operation and the horizontal viewing can realize the cutting and observation of human structure at any angle and at different levels. It integrates general anatomy, partial anatomy, and sectional anatomy and uses the virtual cutter for a continuous display to construct a virtual anatomical combination model to build a three-dimensional space structure for learners.

Objective Structured Clinical Examination, OSCE

(Objective Structured Clinical Examination, OSCE) assessment method, with the design of various scenarios, the candidates were assigned to different labs in sequence. Each lab is set with a clinical scenario, and the candidate demonstrates their nursing skills in response to the clinical scenario within the set time.
