About MPU

MPU is an applied and public university. The University cherishes its long-held devotion to and love for the motherland and Macao SAR. We continue to be guided by our motto of “Knowledge, Expertise, and Global Vision” to promote the strategic role of Macao as “One Centre, One Platform and One Base”. We do this in alignment with China’s Belt and Road Initiative, the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin. We are committed to cultivate talented individuals to serve the country and Macao SAR.

With the support of the SAR government, MPU has entered a new era of development. We are the first higher education institution in Asia having a successful institutional review by the UK Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA); we are the first and only institution in Macao to have twice secured the National Teaching Achievement Award; we have established the first and only “Engineering Research Centre of Applied Technology on Machine Translation and Artificial Intelligence” affiliated with the Ministry of Education in the Hong Kong and Macao region; and we are the only higher education institution in Macao to have been awarded the APQN Quality Award four times.

The University has consistently progressed in the Times Higher Education (THE) University Impact Rankings, placing among the top 100 globally for sustainability, in the SDG area of Decent Work and Economic Growth. In the QS World University Rankings, MPU ranked in the 901-950 band globally, and has received accolades such as a 5-Star Rating in overall assessment of the QS Stars University Ratings, and the QS Global Engagement Performance Improvement Award. The educational quality of MPU has garnered both national and international recognition, with its global competitiveness and international reputation growing steadily. MPU has established an extensive, continuous cooperation network with both local and overseas prestigious universities, and we are actively participating in the development of the Macao-Hengqin International Education (University) Town, seizing this opportunity to further leverage our strengths in teaching and research in areas such as AI, big health, languages and translation, sports science, and tourism and leisure, thereby contributing to the establishment of the Education Town as both an “International Higher Education Demonstration Zone” and an “International Science and Technology Innovation Demonstration Zone”.
