As winners of the 12^th Macao Inter-Tertiary Debating Competition, the MPI Putonghua Debating Team went on to represent Macao to compete with debaters from the National University of Singapore, the University of Hong Kong, Monash University and Renmin University of China in the largest Mandarin debating competition, the 5^th World Mandarin Debating Championship.

With 246 teams worldwide in total competing for the World Mandarin Debating Championship, only 16 teams representing different regions could compete in the final in Nanjing. In acknowledgment of his exceptional debating skills, Chen Yuhan, a student from the Bachelor of Science in Computing Programme, was awarded the “The Best Debater Award”.

It has always been Macao Polytechnic Institute’s goal to cultivate its students’ holistic development and with the support of the Institute the MPI Putonghua Debating Team aims to promote a culture of debating on campus. It is noteworthy in this regard that the Team won the 9th and 12th Macao Inter-Tertiary Debating Competition, and were runners-up in the 2012 Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Championship of the Higher Education Institutions Debating Competition. The Team will next represent Macao to compete in the 2015 Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Championship of Higher Educational Institutions Debating Competition in Hong Kong in September.
