The Council of Macao Polytechnic Institute holds its first meeting

The first plenary meeting of the Council of MPI

The first plenary meeting of the Council of Macau Polytechnic Institute was held on May 15 on the main MPI campus at Gomez Street. President of the Council Professor Lei Heong Iok chaired the meeting. During the meeting, Macao Polytechnic Institute's overall policies and development plans were discussed; report on the work and the latest developments of MPI were heard, and some internal regulations were passed.

The "Higher Education Regime" which took effect in August 2018 stipulates that all tertiary institutes should set up a council. As per instructions from the Chief Executive, members of the Council of Macao Polytechnic Institute were appointed from persons in the fields of science, economics, social affairs, education and culture in the Macao SAR and beyond. Professor Lei Heong Iok, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), serves as President of the Council; and Mr. Lok Po, a member of the National People's Congress, serves as Vice President of the Council. Other Council members include: Professor Zhou Chaochen from the Chinese Academy of Sciences; Ms. Paula Hsião Yun Ling, representative of the National People's Congress;  Dr. Chui Sai Cheong and Mr. Leong Su Sam of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference;  Mr. Ma Iao Hang of the Standing Committee of the CPPCC of Hubei Province; Mr. Mak Soi Kun, a member of the Macao Legislative Council; and Ms. Lam Un Mui, Secretary-General of the Women's General Association of Macau.

Other attendees at the meeting also included Dr. Guo Xiaoming, representative of Office of the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture; Mr. Sou Chio Fai, Director of Higher Education Bureau; Mr. Lou Pak Sang, Director of Education and Youth Affairs Bureau; Mr. Iong Kong Leong, Director of Financial Services Bureau; Mr. Ku Man Tat, representative of the MPI Alumni Association; and Mr. Lam Chi Chio, representative of the Student Union of MPI. Internal Council members from MPI include the President of MPI Professor Im Sio Kei, representative of the Administrative Board, representative of the Senate, Directors of various MPI Schools, and representatives of the teaching and research staff.
