MPI Publishes the Global Gaming & Tourism Research

Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI) has launched the inaugural issue of the “Global Gaming & Tourism Research”. This journal aims to implement the policy of transforming Macao into a World Centre of Tourism and Leisure, as well as promoting the sustainable development of its gaming and tourism industry. “Global Gaming & Tourism Research” is a Chinese language journal that features gaming and tourism studies in the Asia-Pacific region, and it seeks to provide support for managerial decision-making and contribute to the moderate economic diversification in Macao.

The first issue of the “Global Gaming & Tourism Research” contained a congratulatory message from Ms. Ao Ieong U, the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture. Feature articles on the future prospect of the Macao gaming and tourism industry were also contributed by the heads of the six gaming operators, i.e. “Outshine with More Powerful Transformation” by Ms. Angela Leong, Managing Director and Chief Administrative Officer of SJM; “Promoting Diversified Economy Based on Truth, Goodness and Beauty” by Ms. Linda Chen, Vice Chairman and Executive Director of Wynn Macau; “Focus on Exhibition Aiming at Economic Diversification and Integration into the Great Bay Area” by Mr. Philip Cheng, Director of Galaxy Entertainment Group ; “Face Up to Challenge and Move Forward Despite Any Obstacles” by Mr. Wilfred Wong, President of Sands China; “Sharp Focus on Opportunities While Leading the Cultural Tourism Ecosystem” by Ms. Pansy Ho, Co-Chairperson and Executive Director; and “Redefine Tourists’ Experience and Promote Diversified Development” by Mr. Lawrence Ho, Chairman and CEO of Melco Resorts & Entertainment.

Other academic contributions include “Understanding Individual Characteristics and the Regional Differences of Casino Visitors: A Case Study of Macao”, “The Impact of Industrial Policy on Macao’s Gambling Industry Life Cycle”, “Uncovering the Service Profit Chain in the Casino Industry”, “A Study of the Convergence Trend of Gambling and Gaming”, “A Study of Development Strategies of Macao’s Gaming Equipment Manufacturing Industry”, “Lottery and Entertainment: A Study on the Functional Positioning of Lottery Based on the Public Health Perspective”, and “On the Urban Principal Landmark: Taking Macao as an Example”, etc.

“Global Gaming & Tourism Research” is published semi-annually and covers such key areas as the development trend of the global gaming industry, development trend of the Macao gaming industry, evolution and trend of consumer preference among gaming tourists, responsible gaming theory and practice, tourist behaviour theory and case studies, and tourist destination management theory and practice, etc.

Apart from supporting managerial decision-making, “Global Gaming & Tourism Research” seeks to offer literature resources to university students and professionals in gaming and tourism studies, and provide an exchange platform for worldwide experts and scholars specialized in gaming and tourism.
