In order to help students keep a close watch on the latest development of various industries and the employment market and to establish a communication bridge between career development and professional knowledge, as well as strengthen the interaction between tertiary institutions and enterprises, the Student Affairs Office of the Macau Polytechnic Institute (MPI) organised the “Career Exploration Field Trips” series. Recently, a visit to Companhia de Telecomunicações de Macau (CTM) was held to expand students’ horizons of the industry, help them define their objectives of future developments and prepare for career planning.

The event attracted undergraduates and postgraduates of the Computing, E-Commerce and Computer Applied Technology programmes to join, who were warmly welcomed by Mr. Mak Keng Seng, General Manager of Planning and Development of CTM.  Mr Mak reviewed with students the context and significant milestones of Macao’s communication network development, to let students learn about trends and developments of the current information and communication technology industry in Macao, including the smart application of 5G in the future.  Students then visited the 5G application zone to experience the infinite possibilities brought to everyday life by 5G and artificial intelligence.

Mr Leung, a student of the Computing programme, said that the visit made him learn comprehensively about the actual application of 5G in daily life and its future development in Macao. Moreover, he felt deeply that technological advancement had brought tremendous changes to society and the quality of people’s lives. Miss Zhang, a student of the E-Commerce programme, said that with the rapid growth of the information age on the Internet, the construction and practice of smart travel, smart finance, and smart medical care are constantly advancing and technology professionals will have more innovative stages and room for development.
