MPU Charitable Fellowship Programme to share love and care

In order to cultivate the sense of social responsibility, encouraging students to serve others and demonstrating the spirit of mutual help and fraternity, the Student Affairs Office of Macao Polytechnic University organised “MPU Charitable Fellowship Programme - Walk with Love”, and paid a visit to Pou Choi Centre, Fuhong Society of Macao. Through the visit, students obtained the simulation experience of the needs of those with disabilities and visually impaired persons, with first person perspective.

The activity included physical and visual impairment simulation experiences, such as usage of a wheelchair and a guiding cane, the actual application of tactile floor tiles on the pavement, the blindness simulation of dining, and simulation on rehabilitation processes of individuals who have suffered a stroke or amputation. Mr Xu, a student majoring in the Arts in Design programme, stated that the activity allowed him to realise the real situation and travel needs of those with disabilities, and he was inspired to introduce more disability-friendly elements favourable to the needs of disability groups into his future design project concept, thereby creating a quality living environment for them. The activity organiser, the Student Affairs Office, stated that carrying out the experimental activities is intended to promote education for life, encouraging students to actively overcome challenges, and so be enriched for life.

MPU has always attached great importance to students’ holistic development and encourages students to participate in the community, broadening their learning experience. Through the series of activities of the MPU Charity Fellowship Programme, students are encouraged to contribute their knowledge to society and provide solidarity to the most vulnerable communities, so introducing positive influences into the lives of others and spreading care and love in society.

MPU students enter the local community and experience the daily life of those with disabilities
