The Centre for Continuing Education of MPU continues to offer practical courses on elderly care
As the elderly population in Macau increases and in order to improve the professional level of elderly care, the Centre for Continuing Education of Macao Polytechnic University will continue to offer the courses “Training for Families and Caregivers of Elderlies” and “Care for Dementia Patients” in October 2023. These two courses are the Centre’s flagship courses taught by a senior specialist nurse. The courses are now accepting registration.
The course “Training for Families and Caregivers of Elderlies” includes understanding of the physical, psychological and social aspects of the elderly, practical elderly nursing skills, elderly caring, knowledge of basic first aid and basic medication, and so on. The course “Care for Dementia Patients” will introduce dementia theory and caring skills, allowing medical staff, patients' family members or caregivers to understand related theories and practices of safety care, nutrition and diet, mental behavioural problems, crisis management, as well as caregivers' self-care. The course is aimed at ensuring patients with dementia receive safe and appropriate care, and promoting an inclusive community with understanding, care and support.
The courses “Training for Families and Caregivers of Elderlies” and “Care for Dementia Patients” are suitable for those who need to take care of the elderly or patients with dementia, staff of medical or social service agencies, social workers, and those who are interested in the courses. These courses have been approved to be included in the Continuing Education and Development Plan (PDAC) of the Education and Youth Affairs Bureau, allowing students to pay tuition fees through the PDAC Scheme. The courses are now enrolling students and are subject to availability.
