澳門理工大學持續教育中心向社服界介紹
《長者家屬及照顧者培訓課程》

The Centre for Continuing Education of the Macau Polytechnic University recently visited Caritas Macau to introduce the recent development of the Centre and the new course “Training Course for Families and Caregivers of the Elderly” that was launched this year.  The participants exchanged views on elderly care services.

Director General Paul Pun and Deputy Director of Services Judy Chiang introduced various types of elderly care services by Caritas Macau, including community care, home support, residential care services and various elderly activities. Family members or caregivers need to understand the characteristics of the aging process, care for the elderly, communication skills, etc., so as to have more confidence in caring for the elderly at home. Elderly service providers also need targeted professional continuing education opportunities to keep their services up to date.

In order to respond to the social needs of the aging population in a timely manner, enhance the care of the elderly and promote social harmony, the "Training Course for Families and Caregivers of  the Elderly" launched by the Centre for Continuing Education of the Macau Polytechnic University is mainly based on applied practice, aiming to provide relevant theories and targeted technical practices from the aspects of basic nursing practice and management skills, and is taught in Cantonese for 30 hours. Course content includes: Introduction to aging for the elderly (physical, psychological, social); elderly care skills and practice (daily care/home safety; nutrition and feeding skills; personal hygiene care: oal care, bathing; skin care, foot care; vital signs and measurement; support and transfer; communication skills); art of caring for the elderly; basic first aid and introduction to essential medicines, etc. The first class of the course was completed last month, and the participants were very satisfied with the content of the course and believed that they could enhance the knowledge and skills of caring for the elderly and apply what they had learned. The Centre will continue to offer the "Training Course for Families and Caregivers of the Elderly" this year and consider incorporating the course into the Education and Youth Development Bureau's Continuing Education Development Programme in the future to encourage participation.
